Yogyakarta, December 30, 2024 — The Cultural Immersion for International Students 2024 program, organized by the Office of Collaboration and International Affairs in cooperation with LBIPU Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), successfully provided unforgettable experiences for international students. This program aims to introduce international students to Indonesia’s rich culture and history. During a full day of activities on December 30, 2024, participants were invited to explore the cultural wealth of Yogyakarta, from visiting the magnificent Prambanan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to strolling along the vibrant and lively Malioboro street.
* Cultural Education
One of the highlights of Escape to Jogja was the opportunity for international students to delve into Indonesia’s history and traditions. The visit to Prambanan Temple, a world-renowned historical site, provided a deeper understanding of the grandeur of Hindu architecture in Indonesia and its significant role in the history of the Nusantara culture. Additionally, they enjoyed a tour of Malioboro, Yogyakarta’s cultural and shopping hub, famous for its handicrafts, local cuisine, and an atmosphere steeped in traditional vibes.
* Interactive Experiences
Participants not only gained theoretical knowledge but were also directly involved in cultural activities. They had the chance to join traditional dance, gamelan music, and batik painting workshops, providing them with an opportunity to truly experience the local culture. These activities allowed them to engage with Indonesian arts firsthand and learn from local artisans and artists.
* Cross-Cultural Connections
One of the main goals of this program was to build stronger connections between international students and the local community. Through discussions, group activities, and social interactions, participants were able to exchange experiences and perspectives with local residents. This experience enriched their understanding of the importance of cross-cultural collaboration and strengthened international friendships.
* Educational Field Trip
Students were also asked to document their journey by creating vlogs in Bahasa Indonesia, an activity that not only honed their language skills but also deepened their experience of interacting with Indonesian culture. These vlogs will serve as treasured mementos of the cultural journey they experienced.
The Cultural Immersion for International Students 2024 program became a day full of enriching experiences, cultural exchange, and celebration of Indonesia’s beautiful traditions. Every moment spent in Yogyakarta provided a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s cultural richness.
