Surakarta, 6 December 2025 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening global recognition through active participation in international ranking schemes, particularly the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR). This became the central focus of the preparatory meeting for QS WUR 2027, involving university leadership, faculties, and supporting units responsible for institutional reputation and visibility.
The Vice Rector V for Research, Innovation, Reputation, Impact, Partnerships, and International Affairs, Prof. Supriyono, Ph.D., stated that QS is one of the most influential global ranking institutions, widely recognized as a benchmark for international academic excellence.
“This is a ranking institution that drives the global academic landscape,” he remarked during the meeting at the BPH Meeting Hall.
He further highlighted that the Indonesian government refers to QS and THE as official indicators in evaluating the attainment of World Class University (WCU) status. In preparation for QS WUR 2027, UMS is giving special attention to two core indicators — academic reputation and employer reputation, which together account for more than 50% of the overall assessment score.
“We must work collectively so that we may once again secure our position in QS WUR,” he emphasized.
UMS Rector, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., also underlined that rankings and reputation are strategic instruments that directly influence public trust.
“UMS places very serious concern on reputation and global rankings, because the impact will always return to public trust,” he stated.
He noted that the public often remains unfamiliar with differences among global ranking systems, making it crucial for UMS to focus on rankings officially acknowledged by the government. With this foundation, he encouraged the entire academic community to provide full support to the institutional effort.
In the same session, the Deputy for Global Reputation Development, Dr. Agus Ulinuha, M.T., reported that UMS is currently engaged in 11 international ranking platforms, including QS, THE, UI GreenMetric, Edurank, and Unirank. He presented the university’s recent performance and outlined strategies to enhance global visibility through the optimization of international partnerships aligned with QS indicators.
“We hope this will make the process more efficient. PICs are currently assigned at the faculty level, but in the future, they will also extend to study programs. Our expectation is that faculties will coordinate with departments, allowing us to monitor progress more effectively,” he explained.
UMS aims to complete its QS WUR 2027 submission by mid-January 2026. Through structured, collaborative efforts, the university aspires to strengthen its position in the QS global ranking sphere.
In continuity with this strategic agenda, UMS commits to enhancing academic impact, expanding international research collaboration, improving graduate employability visibility, and intensifying global partnership networks. The university emphasizes that QS WUR preparation is not merely a ranking pursuit, but a long-term institutional effort to advance global competitiveness, academic excellence, and worldwide recognition.
