UMS Initiates Partnership with the Ministry of Trade to Develop Student Business Incubator

Jakarta, 4 February 2026 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is exploring the initiation of a student business incubator as a strategic effort to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem on campus. The initiative aims to encourage UMS students not only to become job seekers, but also job creators who contribute to economic growth.

This commitment was conveyed during UMS’s visit to the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday (4/2). During the meeting, UMS expressed its readiness to support student entrepreneurship development programs through the establishment of an integrated business incubator.

The Vice Rector V for Research, Innovation, Reputation, Impact, Partnership, and International Affairs at UMS, Prof. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., explained that the business incubator reflects UMS’s institutional commitment to facilitating students who aspire to become entrepreneurs.

“Our grand vision is to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among UMS students. We want our students not only to be job seekers, but also job creators who can generate real impact for society,” said Supriyono on Friday (6/2).

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sub-Directorate for Industry Partnership Development at the Directorate of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs, Sidiq Permono Nugroho, S.E., M.M., stated that the proposed business incubator aligns with entrepreneurship development programs currently implemented by the Ministry of Trade.

The Ministry of Trade is known to operate a similar initiative called Campuspreneur, which has been implemented at 18 universities across Indonesia.

“We proposed the concept of a student business incubator, and it turns out that the Ministry of Trade also has a similar program through Campuspreneur. This creates a strong opportunity for collaboration,” Sidiq explained.

During the one-hour meeting, UMS presented its campus entrepreneurship ecosystem and expressed its readiness to support the Campuspreneur program through the proposed incubator.

“We explained the entrepreneurship ecosystem at UMS, and thankfully the Ministry showed interest in collaborating with UMS through this program,” he added.

If the initiative is successfully realized, the Ministry of Trade will provide various supporting facilities to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem at UMS, including business training, market testing, and marketing support.

Sidiq further explained that many student projects, particularly those developed through the Student Creativity Program (PKM), often stop at the prototype stage, despite having strong potential for commercialization.

Through the UMS business incubator, student innovations are expected to be systematically curated to identify products with commercialization potential. The incubation process will also focus on enhancing product value and market competitiveness.

“The value of these products will be significantly different after going through the incubation process. We hope our students can fill market niches that have not yet been addressed by existing producers,” Sidiq concluded.
