Surakarta, January 17, 2026 — The Directorate of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs (DRKUI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) successfully held an Online Double Degree Program Socialization via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (January 17). The event was part of UMS’s strategic efforts to expand access to international education and to prepare students for global academic and career pathways.
The program was officially opened by the Director of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs of UMS, Nurgiyatna, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., and attended by International Class students along with their parents. The high level of participation reflected strong enthusiasm for UMS’s internationally oriented academic programs.
In the opening session, an overview of the Double Degree Program scheme was delivered by Wijianto, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Head of the Sub-Directorate of Hospitality at DRKUI UMS. In his presentation, Wijianto explained the program mechanism comprehensively, covering registration requirements, selection procedures, departure preparation, and academic facilities provided to students throughout their participation in the program.
“The UMS Double Degree Program is designed to provide convenience and academic certainty for students, including tuition fee waivers at UMS while they are studying at partner universities. DRKUI also provides assistance from the registration stage through to departure preparation to ensure students are academically and administratively well-prepared,” explained Wijianto.
The session continued with the introduction of Double Degree opportunities in collaboration with Dong A University, South Korea, and National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan. The information presented included academic systems, cross-border academic recognition, and opportunities for global competence development for UMS students.
The event also featured experience-sharing sessions from alumni of the UMS Double Degree Program. Muhammad Alfian Syukron Kurniawan, an alumnus of the Double Degree Program at Dong A University who is currently working in South Korea, shared his academic and professional journey during and after completing the program.
“My experience studying at Dong A University broadened my academic perspective and international network significantly. The adaptation process during my studies became an important foundation that eventually enabled me to build my career and work in South Korea,” said Alfian.
In addition, a best practice sharing session was delivered by Fairuz Ashma Nabila, an alumna of the Double Degree Program at National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan. She explained that her Double Degree experience in Taiwan provided valuable lessons in navigating a multicultural environment and an international education system.
“The Double Degree Program in Taiwan trained me to be independent, adaptive, and globally minded. This experience greatly influenced my readiness to face academic and professional challenges at the international level,” Fairuz remarked.
The socialization concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session that fostered dynamic engagement. The strong enthusiasm from both students and parents demonstrated the growing interest in the Double Degree Program as a strategic pathway for academic development and international careers.
Through this activity, DRKUI UMS reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the internationalization of education, expanding global partnerships, and preparing UMS students to compete and contribute at the international level through high-quality, globally standardized academic programs.
