Surakarta, April 28, 2026 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) hosted the MPR RI Goes to Campus event, raising the theme “The Urgency of Energy Transition to Prevent the Impacts of Climate Change.” The event took place at the Dr. H. Syamsudin Seminar Room, 8th Floor, Ahmad Syafii Maarif Building, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UMS, and featured the Vice Chairman of the MPR RI, Dr. Eddy Soeparno, S.H., M.H., as the keynote speaker.
More than 700 students from various study programs, particularly from the Faculty of Economics and Business, attended the event with great enthusiasm from start to finish. The atmosphere became even more lively as the Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., engaged with students in an interactive and energetic opening remark.
On that occasion, Harun encouraged students from diverse disciplines such as Management, Accounting, Development Studies, and Digital Business to actively participate in the national lecture. He emphasized that the presence of the Vice Chairman of the MPR RI provided a valuable opportunity for students to learn directly from a national practitioner in legislative and public policy fields.
According to him, energy is a strategic issue in national development that must be managed wisely. He also highlighted the importance of cultural change in energy consumption, including avoiding wasteful behavior as part of efforts to ensure sustainability.
“Through this event, we hope to build stronger synergy between academia and state institutions in addressing the challenges of climate change and energy management in the future,” he stated.
In his presentation, Dr. Eddy Soeparno stressed that the climate crisis is a global reality that cannot be ignored and requires immediate action. He noted that Indonesia has vast renewable energy potential, but it has not yet been optimally utilized.
“A well-planned energy transition is needed to maintain national energy security,” he explained.
He also pointed out the energy paradox in Indonesia—abundant energy resources, yet continued reliance on imports for certain needs.
This event served as a strategic forum connecting students with policymakers, while strengthening young people’s understanding of the importance of energy transition in addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development.
