Tzu Chi University Taiwan Visits Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta to Expand International Collaboration in Education

Surakarta, April 16, 2025 – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) was honored to welcome delegates from Tzu Chi University, Taiwan, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to discuss potential collaborations and academic partnerships.

Tzu Chi University, a well-established charitable organization with a strong focus on health, culture, and education, offers a wide range of academic programs including Nursing, Medicine, Physiotherapy, English and Japanese Language, Communication, Nuclear Radiology, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Information Technology, among others.

The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen ties in the field of higher education and to offer scholarship opportunities to students and staff of UMS. During the meeting, Tzu Chi University introduced several scholarship schemes specifically designed for Indonesian students:

1. Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship – Covers tuition fees, meals, dormitory accommodation, and a living allowance (note: flight tickets and insurance are not included).
2. Postgraduate Nursing Scholarship – Covers tuition fees (note: flight tickets and insurance are not included).
3. Scholarship Selection Process – Includes written tests and interviews conducted by Tzu Chi University.
4. Program Contract – Selected scholars are required to commit to a 5-year study period (including language training and professional licensing education) followed by a 5-year work period.
5. Language Preparation – Scholars will undergo a two-semester language training program in Taiwan.
6. Medium of Instruction – Postgraduate and doctoral programs are conducted in English.
7. Career Opportunities – Graduates of the nursing program may also be offered employment at Tzu Chi hospitals in Taiwan and Jakarta.

In response to this collaboration, UMS expressed full support and readiness to disseminate information about the scholarship and recruitment opportunities to Muhammadiyah-affiliated schools across Indonesia.

Moreover, Tzu Chi University has expressed openness to academic mobility programs, including student and staff exchanges, guest lectureships, credit transfer initiatives, and joint research projects. Both institutions look forward to building a sustainable and impactful partnership that fosters academic excellence and cultural exchange.

This visit reaffirms UMS’s commitment to internationalization and its vision of creating meaningful global partnerships that provide students and faculty with broader access to world-class education and professional development.
