Surakarta, 28 August 2025 – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), through the Directorate of Reputation, Partnerships, and International Affairs (DRKUI), officially welcomed Yewon Chung, an exchange student from Kongju National University (KNU), South Korea, who will be joining the Inbound Mobility program for the Academic Year 2025/2026.
Yewon Chung’s arrival marks the continuation of the long-standing academic collaboration between UMS and KNU, while also reinforcing UMS’s commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education through student mobility programs.
Starting 1 September 2025, Yewon will begin her academic journey at UMS, enrolling in six courses across two study programs—five courses under the Mechanical Engineering Study Program and one course under the English Education Study Program. This interdisciplinary learning opportunity is expected to provide her with a comprehensive academic experience and a broadened perspective across multiple fields.
Her arrival in Surakarta was warmly received by the DRKUI team, who have provided assistance throughout the initial adaptation process, including campus orientation, academic registration, residence permit guidance, and introduction to learning facilities. The orientation program also covered cultural immersion activities to help Yewon adapt smoothly to her new environment. She was introduced to various academic facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, and libraries, as well as to the faculty members responsible for her courses, ensuring early academic engagement.
The partnership between UMS and KNU operates on a reciprocal basis. In the previous semester, two UMS Management students had successfully participated in the Outbound Mobility Exchange Program at Kongju National University, from March to August 2025. Their experiences not only enriched their academic knowledge but also expanded their cultural horizons and global networks.
Looking ahead, UMS through DRKUI has once again opened opportunities for UMS students to apply for the Outbound Mobility Program to KNU for the Spring Semester 2026. The application process is currently ongoing and will close at the end of October 2025. With the positive outcomes from past participants, enthusiasm among UMS students for this program is expected to be even greater.
Through the implementation of both inbound and outbound mobility programs, UMS continues to strengthen its role as a globally engaged university, committed to creating a multicultural academic environment and enhancing its reputation in the international education landscape. The collaboration with KNU stands as a testament to UMS’s dedication in fostering academic excellence, cultural exchange, and long-term global partnerships.
