Surakarta, May 6, 2025 – The Office of Collaboration and International Affairs (BKUI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) hosted an interactive talkshow featuring international students from Uzbekistan as well as UMS students from various study programs. This warm and friendly event served as an important platform for academic and cultural exchange among students from different countries.
This activity was part of the Inbound Mobility program attended by students from Uzbekistan from May 5 to 10, 2025. The program was a collaboration between BKUI UMS and the Management, Accounting, and English Language Education departments. One of the highlights of the event was the interactive talkshow titled “From Uzbekistan to UMS: A Student’s Journey Across Cultures”, held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Moh Djazman Auditorium, UMS. During this session, international students from Bukhara University of Innovation and Millat University, Uzbekistan, shared their experiences studying at UMS and adapting to the new culture and environment in Indonesia.
In her opening remarks, Sri Indra Kurnia, S.K.M., M.P.H., Head of the Student Mobility and Hospitality Division at BKUI UMS, expressed her hope that the event would not only be a formal occasion but also a relaxed and enjoyable space for all participants.
“We don’t need to be too serious. This event is designed to be a memorable experience for everyone. Just relax, enjoy, and listen to the stories from our international student friends,” she said with a warm smile.
Sri Indra also emphasized the importance of building cross-cultural friendships that can last even after the exchange program ends.
“Maybe in the future, your paths will cross again. So, make the most of this moment. Ask whatever you want to know, and build connections that can last,” she added.
The event was divided into two main sessions. The first session featured representatives of UMS students from the Accounting, Management, and English Education programs sharing their academic journeys at UMS. The second session continued with presentations from the international students introducing their home campuses and cultures.
BKUI hopes that events like this will continue as part of UMS’s commitment to creating an inclusive, global campus environment filled with a strong spirit of collaboration.
