Malaysia, 13 November 2025 – The Directorate of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs (DRKUI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) conducted a benchmarking visit to Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) on 13 November 2025. This agenda is part of UMS’s continuous efforts to enhance international engagement, institutional reputation, and global collaboration.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Reputation, Impact, Partnerships, and International Affairs of UMS, emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative. “We hope that this benchmarking visit will broaden our perspectives and inspire meaningful improvements within UMS. By learning from UTHM’s best practices, we aim to strengthen our internationalization ecosystem and create more impactful global collaborations,” he said.
The benchmarking session was divided into two teams: one focusing on partnerships and international affairs, and the other focusing on global reputation development. Each team engaged in in-depth discussions with relevant UTHM units to explore effective strategies, governance mechanisms, and collaborative opportunities.
Dr. Nurgiyatna S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Director of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs, also expressed his appreciation for the constructive sessions with UTHM. “This visit allows us to identify new opportunities and refine our approaches in managing international programs, services, and global recognition. It is a valuable step toward strengthening UMS’s presence on the world stage,” he stated.
After the benchmarking discussions, the UMS delegation continued with a tour of the Tunku Tun Aminah Library, which also houses UTHM’s International Office. The group also visited the library’s SDGs Corner, which reflects UTHM’s strong commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through academic initiatives, community engagement, and campus-wide programs.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Supriyono reiterated the value of the benchmarking outcomes. “The constructive dialogue and observations we experienced today will serve as important references in strengthening UMS’s service quality, partnership governance, and international programs,” he concluded.
UMS reaffirms its strong commitment to strengthening internationalization initiatives through evidence-based improvements, expanding impactful global partnerships, and enhancing institutional visibility worldwide. This benchmarking visit represents one of many steps UMS will continue to take to ensure sustainable progress and to position the university firmly among globally recognized higher education institutions.
