Surakarta, 20 October 2025 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) once again reinforces its leading role in international engagement by hosting the Annual Meeting of the Association of International Office (ASKUI) of Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) 2025.
The three-day forum, held at The Alana Hotel Meeting Room from October 20–22, brought together delegates from 45 Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah universities across Indonesia. This annual gathering serves as a strategic platform to strengthen synergy, exchange best practices, and expand international cooperation among PTMA institutions.
In his opening remarks, Nurgiyatna, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., as Chair of the Organizing Committee and Director of the Directorate of Reputation, Partnership, and International Affairs (DRKUI UMS), expressed gratitude for the trust given to UMS as this year’s host.
“We are truly honored to host this important gathering. May the event run smoothly and bring blessings to all participants,” he stated.
Nurgiyatna emphasized that the participation of 45 PTMA delegations demonstrates a shared commitment to global collaboration and reflects Muhammadiyah’s vision of developing globally competitive Islamic higher education.
Meanwhile, Condro Nur Alim, Ph.D., as Chair of ASKUI PTMA, highlighted the vital role of ASKUI in strengthening the global presence of Muhammadiyah universities.
“Internationalization is no longer a choice—it’s a necessity. Through ASKUI, we can accelerate collaboration, mobility, and global impact for all PTMA institutions,” he affirmed.
Representing the UMS Rector, Prof. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector V of UMS, encouraged all PTMA members to advance together in the spirit of internationalization.
“This association must become a source of motivation for every PTMA to move forward collectively toward internationalization,” he said.
He also reaffirmed UMS’s support for initiatives that strengthen cooperation among Muhammadiyah universities, especially in international education.
“UMS will continue to support programs that enhance collaboration and global visibility among PTMA institutions,” he added.
The meeting was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Jamhari Makruf, M.A., Vice Chair V of the Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development (Diktilitbang) of Muhammadiyah Central Board, who also extended his congratulations on the successful organization of the forum.
“Congratulations to all participants of the 2025 Annual Meeting of ASKUI PTMA. May this forum bring new leadership, stronger networks, and greater impact for Muhammadiyah higher education,” he expressed.
The symbolic gong strike marked the official opening of the event, followed by applause from all delegates. The session concluded with a fan dance performance by UMS students from Thailand, symbolizing harmony, cross-cultural friendship, and UMS’s global inclusivity.
Through this event, UMS once again reaffirms its commitment to becoming a hub of international collaboration and a driving force for the global advancement of Muhammadiyah higher education. UMS continues to strengthen its mission of nurturing globally minded graduates, expanding academic networks, and promoting a campus environment that values diversity, excellence, and meaningful global engagement.
